Honor 9 was an award-winning mid-range smartphone last year and today, the company has launched its successor Honor 10. It has been one of the most talked-about phones in 2018 due to its AI-based processor.
Its duly notable that whenever a new Huawei flagship enters the market, a low priced Honor phone follows every time. Apparently, this is what the Honor 10 is to the Huawei P20.
The sales pitch behind the Honor’s latest phone is its camera quality which the phone’s tagline clearly states as “Beauty in AI”. Beefed up with the top of the line specs, the phone has all the elegance of a high-end flagship with a decent price tag.
Honor 10 sports glass panels on back and front with metal frame. One the front the Honor 10 boasts a 5.84-inch Fullview display and an ultrasonic fingerprint at the bottom bezel of the phone. The sensor is placed under the glass highlighted with an outline which the company claims to be super-sensitive and can recognize fingerprints even with wet hands.
Honor 10 has 15 layers of 3D glass on its back ultimately producing a dazzling sight to behold. These layers combine to give a dynamic color effect which company’s President George Zhao names as “ever-changing color”.Thanks to nano-scale optical engineering, this is the industry’s first phone with reflection coating technology. The phone literally changes colors between blue, green and purple as the light reflects on the surfaces.
The bottom of the phone sports a Type-C charging port, along with a speaker grill and headphone jack while an IR blaster is mounted on the top of the phone. On the right lie the power key and volume rocker whereas on the left of the phone we have a dual sim card slot. Sadly Honor has not provided support for micro SD card.
Quite surprisingly, in terms of design the phone exceeds its price tag and has a look better than most of the heavy hitters in the smartphone industry.
The Honor 10 features a 5.84-inch FullHD+ Fullview display with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 which sums up into 432 ppi. The phone uses an IPS LCD display and has a notch at the top. For those of you who don’t want a notch on their phones, you can hide the notch with a toggle in the settings.
Although we think the display on Honor 10 won’t deliver the deep blacks and color saturation as an OLED panel in this price tag you can hardly find a phone that matches the specs of the Honor 10.
AI Powered Internals
In terms of specs, the Honor 10 and the Huawei P20 have a striking similarity. Both of the phones sport the latest Kirin 970 with an independent Neural Processing Unit that intelligently manages the resources of the phone using artificial intelligence.
Honor 10 comes in two memory options, 64 GB and 128 GB with 4/6 GB RAM. The phone houses a dual camera setup on its rear with 16 MP + 24 MP having dual core Phase Detection Autofocus. On the front, a 24 MP camera stands out with f/2.0.
The phone comes with Huawei’s latest EMUI 8.1 skin sitting on Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box which also has some fun features like gesture control and screen color temperature adjustment.
The company claims that the phone has an improved photography and thanks to the AI, the phone can precisely detect various segments in one picture. President Zhao said that the phone’s camera will have an intelligent recommendation of special effects for pictures three times faster than the iPhone X.
According to the company, the phone’s front camera will have a professional grade portrait bokeh which operates on layer mechanism when identifying the subject in the picture. it basically differentiates the layers in the picture and then treats them to get the perfect selfie.
Moreover, using the AI, the rear camera can also give an excellent bokeh effect even with more than one subjects in the picture. It also recognizes a group photo and treats it accordingly.
Enhanced Audio Experience
Honor has not only decided to keep the headphone jack on the phone but also collaborated with Monster, to provide Monster earphones with the phone. The company is famous for the quality of its audio products.
Honor 10 comes with a 7.1 channel sound and offers Huawei Histen technology with 3D audio profiles and a plethora of EQ settings.
The phone houses a 3400 mAh battery which is slightly larger than 3200 mAh of its predecessor Honor. It also comes equipped with Quick charge technology that juices up the phone to 50% in just 25 minutes as the company claims.
Colors and Price
Honor 10 comes in a variety of stunning colors. The Phantom blue color produces a hue of blue and purple, the Phantom green color provides a shade of Aurora lights green and blue from different angles. If you are looking for much simpler colors, the phone also comes in Midnight Black and Glacier Grey.
