Xiaomi has already kicked off 2018’s smartphone season with quite a bang with the launch of Mi Mix 2S, Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro but for the Android fans, it is just the beginning. The Chinese smartphone company that has been gaining momentum, thanks to the packaged deal of affordability and quality in Xiaomi devices, celebrated its 8th anniversary by launching the Xiaomi Mi 8.
The device is a flagship and the latest edition in the company’s smartphone family that features the top-notch specs and eyes to compete with the heavy hitters in the industry.
Here is all you want to know about the Xiaomi Mi 8.
Design & Display
It’s getting difficult for smartphone makers to manufacture a standout design these days (Vivo Nex and Oppo Find X excluded). Earlier our review of the Vivo V9 proved that the phone is an iPhone X copycat with poor performance. As for the design is concerned, the same goes for the Xiaomi Mi 8.
The design of the device is heavily inspired by the iPhone X. It hosts a rather large notch on the front along with a substantial chin at the bottom. The phone boasts a Corning Gorilla glass body with vertical dual camera setup on its back along with the fingerprint sensor.
The Explorer Edition of Xiaomi Mi 8, however, has a unique look with its transparent glass body, a mere gimmick that HTC has also tried to opt in the U12+
Xiaomi Mi 8 flashes a 6.21-inch AMOLED display having an FHD+ resolution and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio which sums up into a density of about 402 ppi. AMOLED panels are known for their better and accurate color saturation.
You can expect the device to be a powerhouse as there are two variants sporting either 6GB of RAM along with 64/128/256GB of internal storage depending upon the user’s choice of the variant.
As for the camera, Xiaomi Mi 8 comes at par with the modern trend of dual cameras and hosts an AI-powered rear camera setup with 12MP+12MP sensors. The rear camera on the device also boasts a 4-Axis OIS while on the front we find a 20MP shooter with F/2.0 aperture, AI portrait mode and AI beautify.
The front camera rests on the notch and is accompanied by the infrared lens for the face unlock technology to work with more precision.
