In a packed event today in Shenzhen, China, Xiaomi introduced its line up of latest smartphones for 2018 that included the Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. It was the largest launch event that company has ever hosted. The company released the phones with an “8” suffix to align with its eighth anniversary.
Numerous leaks and rumors have been in the air regarding the latest flagship. Let’s take a look at the specs to see whether or not the leaks were true.
Xiaomi Mi 8
Xiaomi Mi 8 comes 6.21-inch FHD+, AMOLED display with a notch and 18.7:9 aspect ratio and 88.5% screen-to-body ratio as the company claims. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass Body that will also allow wireless charging. Besides the volume rocker and power button on the right, the phone has also a dedicated physical key on the left for MIUI Assistant.
On the back, we can see a dual rear camera in the top left corner and fingerprint in the middle. The rear camera is AI-powered with 12MP + 12MP sensors and has 4-Axis OIS while on the front we find a 20MP shooter with F/2.0 aperture, AI portrait mode and AI beautify. The front camera also accompanies infrared lighting emitter and an infrared lens for Face Unlock to work.
The internals of Xiaomi Mi 8, include a Snapdragon 845 as expected along with 6GB/8GB of RAM with 64GB/128GB of storage to choose from and a 3400 mAh battery to juice it all up. The phone Scored a massive 301,470 on AnTuTu benchmark which is the highest by any Snapdragon 845 Phone.
Xiaomi Mi 8 is priced at 2699 Yuan which translates roughly to $420. Given the specs, the price tag is amazing for what this phone has to offer.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition
Phones with transparent back are the new thing in the industry. First HTC did it with its U12+, now Xiaomi follows with its Mi 8 Explorer Edition. It is basically a pricier and upgraded version of the regular Mi 8 that has a transparent back and an in-display fingerprint scanner along with the Face Unlock.
The phone comes with all the goodies of the regular mi 8 except the battery that has been degraded to 3000mAh in Explorer Edition. Despite that, the phone is priced at 3699 Yuan, around $577.60
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE
As the leaks suggested, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is the younger sibling with smaller screen size and more rectangular corners than the other versions of Mi 8. It comes with a 5.88-inch FHD+ AMOLED display.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s recently launched mid-tier Snapdragon 710 processor along with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. The smartphone packs an AI-enabled 12MP+ 5MP dual rear camera specifically for enhanced low-light photography, as the company claims. Meanwhile, the front hosts a 20 MP snapper which also powered by AI to produce your desired selfies.
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE will be available for 1799 Yuan which means $281 dollars. Xiaomi has always been known to provide great specs in its smartphones for reasonable prices and yet again it did not disappoint us in pricing its new flagship line up.
