Having introduced the trend of borderless display in the phone world, Xiaomi has come a long way in their exquisite design and beautiful displays. Looks like, after the launch of Mi Mix 2S, the company is once again gearing up for its next flagship. Rumors suggest that Xiaomi may once again go border-less for its upcoming device, Xiaomi Mi 7.
Since Xiaomi Mi 6 was launched on April 19 last year, the rumor mill has been speculating that the Xiaomi Mi 7 may debut around the same time this year. Moreover, the company had confirmed the March 27 launch date for Mi MIX 2S well in advance on Feb. 25. Judging by this, it does not seem that the Mi 7 will debut in this month. However, its launch date seems to be around the corner.
According to an industry insider on Weibo named Mocha RQ, the company is facing difficulties regarding the sensor that is placed in the display, hence the delay in launch.
Xiaomi’s owner and CEO, Lei Jun has confirmed in a discussion on Weibo that Mi 7 will actually feature a fingerprint in the display. A leaked screenshot has surfaced up on the internet and has revealed the specs of Mi 7.
Mi 7 will be furnished with Snapdragon 845 and will have 6 GB/8 GB RAM with 64GB/ 128 GB memory respectively. It will host dual camera setup of 16 MP +16 MP with 4-axis OIS.
The Mi 7 may feature 5.65 inches FHD+ OLED display whereas the Plus version may house a 6.01-inches FHD+ OLED screen. A colossal 4480 mAh battery will be the phone’s power source. It is speculated that the on-screen fingerprint sensor will be exclusive to the Plus version of Mi 7.
The thing that Xiaomi has never done before in its flagship line is to implement wireless charging in its smartphones. Xiaomi has joined the Wireless Power Consortium with the Mi Mix 2S so we would really expect the Mi7 to follow suit.
While we’re going down the path of things Xiaomi has never done before, we’d love to see waterproofing implemented in the Mi7. We’ve heard nothing on this front, but we’ll keep you posted if we do.
