Telegram Crosses 500 million Active Users

After WhatsApp announced to alter its privacy policy, several messenger apps such as Telegram and Signal have witnessed a massive surge in their download and registration.

Telegram has updated its entire user base through a notification to have surpassed 500 million active users on January 13, 2021.

A message from the Telegram official account popped up on the user’s screen that said, “Telegram surpassed 500 million active users”.

“In the past 72 hours alone, more than 25 million new users from around the world joined Telegram”.

Similarly, the Signal app is undergoing a massive load on its server after Elon Musk recommended its followers to use the app instead of WhatsApp due to the latter’s recent user privacy policy announcement. Signal has crossed a million installations every day, reaching more than 10 million downloads in total on the Google Play store.

On January 4, 2021, WhatsApp announced a change in its user privacy policy, which states that from February 8 onwards, users will not be able to use the messenger without accepting a new user policy that allows WhatsApp to share user’s data with Facebook and other entities including Instagram.

Launched in 2013, Telegram provides end to end encryption to its user’s chat and calls. Its features exceed in numbers than what WhatsApp usually provides to its users.
