Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has issued the framework for testing and development of future technologies, particularly fifth generation (5G wireless networks) which will enable 5G trials using radio spectrum.
The framework will also create a pathway to look into the innovative use of radio frequency spectrum, apparatus/equipment and academic purposes like scientific research, radio concepts, new systems demonstrations, etc.
5G trials are being carried out in different parts of the world. Several telecom companies are looking into utilizing the latest technology to create better services for their users in the future.
The previous government repeatedly reaffirmed their commitment to bringing 5G technology in Pakistan. Though the country’s leadership has changed, seemingly the authorities have not sidelined the possibilities of a much better future with the help of 5G technology.
It is likely that moving forward, Huawei will look into testing the fifth generation wireless network services in Pakistan as it continues to embroil in the heated 5G battle with the US. According to the Ministry of Planning, the Chinese firm has expressed interest in making “heavy investment” in Pakistan which leads us to believe that maybe it is related to the company’s plan to test the new technology in the country.
