After much success of the helio P60, found in Oppo F9, MediaTek seems to be focusing on mid-range chipsets for quite some time now which have also received much appreciation for their performance. The company is now set to release its next-gen midrange SoC and it is the Helio P80 that will debut on next year’s Oppo R19.
According to the details, Helio P80 will be built on a 12nm processor but with upgraded architecture which will provide the chipset with better AI performance than even the most advanced chip from Huawei’s Kirin 980.
This was backed by the AI benchmarks that surfaced on the internet which place the Helio P80 beside the upcoming Snapdragon 8150, where both are way higher in performance than the Kirin 980.
MediaTek processors were used on the Oppo R15 series but were abandoned for the Oppo R17 series which force the company to strengthen the processor performance in order to get sufficient orders for OPPO R19 in the first half of next year, reports the Taiwan Business Times.
CPU and GPU architecture in the latest MediaTek chipset could also be improved because only the Ai performance cannot be enough to counter the competition from Qualcomm and Huawei chipsets since both of them are manufactured on a 10nm process.
Until it’s official, we suggest you take it with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, the results are evidence that the new processors are improving in AI tasks at a greater rate than their predecessors.
