Lenovo Z5 launch reveals company’s deceptive marketing

We all have been waiting to see the launch of Lenovo Z5 considering the hype that was created around the phone by Chang Cheng, Lenovo’s VP. The company has launched the phone today in an event in Beijing, China and surprisingly all the claims earlier by the company’s VP proved to be just fabricated lies to build sensation around the phone.

It is infuriating as well as disappointing to see such a deceptive marketing strategy from a tech giant like Lenovo. The company official let the people believe that it would be a bezel-less phone but it turned out to be a clone of iPhone X. Yes, the phone has a notch!

Among all the fake hype, Lenovo Z5 does provide a value for money spec sheet  Despite all the fake hype, the Lenovo Z5 does have value-for-money components.

The phone boasts a 6.2-inch Full-HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio that can be cranked up to 700 nits brightness. The display is protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla glass. The internal of the phone include a power-efficient Snapdragon 636 chip in the driving seat with 6GB of RAM in tow. It has an AI-enabled dual camera setup at the back hosting 16MP f/2.0 sensor and a secondary 8MP sensor for depth information.

The phone comes with 6GB of RAM along with 64/128GB of internal storage and the promised 4 TB storage turned out to be an extra hard disk accessory. The phone is said to come at $202 for the 6GB/64GB version and $281 for 6GB/128GB.

However, the recently launched Xiaomi Mi 8 SE provides a better Snapdragon 710 chipset at $281 so Lenovo should have given the spec sheet a second thought.

Early leaks by the company’s VP suggested a high-end phone with top-notch specs and above all, an all screen display but the phone’s launch has proved that it was merely a marketing strategy to catch the attention.
