Huawei is testing Russia’s Aurora OS as Android replacement

For the past couple of weeks, the news surrounding Huawei’s very own operating system after the US ban has been blowing up on the internet and even though the company has admitted about developing its custom software, the smartphone maker is reportedly looking at Russian-made Sailfish OS as an Android alternative.

According to The Bell, Huawei CEO Guo Ping has talked with Konstantin Noskov, the minister of digital development, communications, and mass media of Russia about the possibility of using Sailfish OS on Huawei smartphones. Reportedly, the company is already testing phones with pre-installed Aurora OS. Guo Ping also discussed the possibility of moving the company’s chipsets and devices production partially to Russia.

If you do not know about Sailfish OS, you are not alone as in the face of Android and iOS, no operating system has managed to make a splash in the market. The Russsian software is Linux distribution developed by Finnish company Jolla and Aurora OS is a mobile operating system based on the open-source Sailfish OS.

Even though it is a minor blip on the radar of smartphone operating systems but its focus on privacy and security has won over the hearts of many users.

Recently, it was also reported that Huawei is teaming up with Tencent, OPPO, and Vivo to test its new Hongmeng OS and now with its inclination towards Auora OS, we can assume that the company is looking at all possible solutions to its Android ban problem.

At the same time, switching to a different non-Android OS would not be an easy feat as the user will lose all the Google services which have become a part of their lives. The company won’t just have to convince the users to try a new OS but also to forgo Google’s provided apps in favor of their devices.

The company has been working hard to bring popular app developers on board to build its very own Google Play store alternative but without the US firms which offer popular social media apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. the international Huawei users would be at a major disadvantage.
