Since last month, the future of Huawei and Android partnership has been plagued with uncertainty as the US-led ban has forced Google to suspend its business with the Chinese smartphone maker. After the shocking announcement, Huawei revealed that it has a plan B in its arsenal, its homegrown Hongmeng OS which has been under development for the past seven years.

Huawei has repeatedly shown its desire to stay part of the Android family and according to a new report the company is testing EMUI 10 based on Android Q and is working on adapting it for initially 11 smartphones including:

  • Huawei P30 Pro
  • Huawei P30
  • Huawei P30 Lite
  • Huawei Mate 20 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 20
  • Huawei Mate 20X 5G
  • Huawei P Smart 2019
  • Huawei P Smart+ 2019
  • Huawei P Smart Z
  • Huawei P20 Pro
  • Huawei P20

Previously, the US government gave the Chinese company 90 days reprieve which will end by 16th August 2019 resulting in all restrictions coming back in full effect. Google alongside Intel and Qualcomm has started to lobby against the “Huawei ban” and Huawei has already sought out the justice system to get out of this mess.

In case the company is unable to access Android Q as well as Google’s operating system as a whole, the company will rely on its Hongmeng OS which is being tested along with Tencent, Vivo, and OPPO in China.
