The much-awaited mate series of smartphones is here now, and Huawei has put almost everything inside that is technologically possible today, way ahead than other manufacturers. Although there is no official Android version from Google inside – a pain point for Huawei and disappointment for Huawei fans, however, the series still outsmart all other Android bigwigs of today.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 come with jaw-dropping design, 5G capability and Kirin 990 – fastest processing chip ever by Huawei. There is a quad-camera setup on the rear side which is just not an ordinary camera with higher megapixels or telephoto zoom gimmickry. P30 Pro amazed us with zooming capability and shooting in the dark, this time, Huawei gives us SuperSensing Cine Camera that almost replaces professional cameras for photography and videography. The battery is much optimized, but it’s the EMUI 10 that steals the show with much improved AI tools.
The design was what the hallmark of Mate 20 Pro and this years’ devices build upon the ancestral characteristic. Mate 30 Pro has an ultra-narrow notch design and thinnest of bezels. The screen makes an 88-degree curve and blends with the panel forming a curved edge which seems like an edge to edge screen.
The interesting part is the replacement of physical volume key with a virtual one that is pressed with a haptic touch it could be a similar approach what we are expecting in Vivo Nex 3 but in Huawei’s Mate, the key can be customized and placed on either side of the phone, left of right which is a first time approach we have seen as of yet.
There is a 3D Face Unlock and in-built fingerprint scanner for more secure biometric security, not only it’s handy for unlocking the phone but several EMUI 10 security features make use of these sensors. On the flip side, a quad-camera setup is encircled in a metallic rim up top that mirrors the design of DSLR camera.
For sound, Mate 30 Pro features Huawei Acoustic Display Technology for a sound-emitting display.
Photography and Videography like never before
The camera is among the primary features this time again in Mate 30 and the Pro version. Huawei has once again stepped towards the needs of professional photographers and videographers. The bulky cameras for video making are no more required for professional-looking videos which are crisp, high res and give a cinematic look.
Mate 30 boasts a SuperSensing triple camera setup that comprises of 40MP SuperSensing camera, 16MP Ultra Wide-angle camera and an 8MP Telephoto lens whereas the Pro version houses inside the metallic circle a quad-camera system with a 40MP Cine Camera, 40MP SuperSensing Camera, 8MP Telephoto lens and a 3D Depth Sensing sensor.
The large sensor size of 1/1.54 inches in Mate 30 pro dual camera setup can reach Video ISO of 51200 for producing videos of extended dynamic range at 4K/60 fps. In its presentation, Huawei showed hummingbird flapping its wings really slowly in a video shot by Mate 30 Pro that can record ultra slow-motion video at up to 7680 fps. It can also record 4K low light ultra-wide time-lapse video. Similar to what we see in movies, the Pro version can create professional-looking bokeh inside videos.
The other 40MP SuperSensing camera has the sensor size of 1/1.7 inches that can grab 40% more light and offers a light sensitivity of ISO 409600, making the best low light shooting device for ultra-wide shots.
The 8MP Telephoto lens can give 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom that can further go up to 30x digitally.
The 3D Depth Sensing sensor is also a part of the front-facing camera on Mates that gives us a clue about some awesome selfies these phones can produce.

Huawei Mate 30 series carries the most advanced and fastest Kirin 990 chipset series which is a 7nm EUV based technology supporting 2G/3G/4G and 5G. The 5G version of Mate 30 Pro comes with 14 antennas for 5G for giving groundbreaking speed.
There is a 4200 mAh battery inside Mate 30 and a 4500 mAh battery inside Mate 30 Pro along with 27W wireless Huawei SuperCharge and 40W Huawei SuperCharge. Both of them also feature reverse charging.
