I can still remember the time when Snake was the most popular mobile game and a source of great pleasure for Nokia mobile phone users but now the gaming industry has grown to become a worldwide sensation and you can easily find people with head bent downwards, focusing on their smartphone screens in order to level-up.

To keep up with the growing demands from the gaming industry and the users, the smartphone companies have been pushing their innovative brains to come up with the smartphones that can fulfill all the gaming needs of the users and the outcome is performance-driven midrange and flagship phones that can play resource-intensive games and a new category of dedicated gaming smartphones.

If you are looking to move from your gaming console to a phone, we can help you choose with our list of best gaming smartphones which offer top-tier performance and the latest software which can fulfill all of your gaming needs in 2019.

Asus ROG Phone II

Asus ROG Phone II

When ASUS launched its first gaming smartphone, ROG Phone in 2018, it was welcomed with open arms due to its unique design, pressure-sensitive sensors for enhanced gaming controls, and powerful list of specs.

This year, the company is taking things to the next level with ROG Phone II which boasts a 6.59-inch 1080p OLED panel, an extraordinary 120Hz refresh rate for more fluid animations, an integrated fingerprint scanner and support for 10-bit HDR.

The device also has a touch sampling rate of 240Hz and touch latency of 49ms. Interestingly, you can choose to run stock Android or Asus’ ROG UI while setting up the smartphone.

Under the hood, ROG phone II also has Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset which features 15% faster GPU performance and higher peak clock speeds on the CPU. The company is using a vapor chamber in its cooling system which will help to deter the peak speeds of the chipset.

It also packs a massive 6000 mAh battery, 12GB RAM and up to 512GB of storage. Furthermore, there is a second USB-C port at the bottom so you can charge the phone without detaching any gaming accessory.

Black Shark 2 Pro

Black Shark 2 Pro

We love how Xiaomi never ceases to amaze us when it comes to quality and innovation in a smartphone and the same combination can be seen in the devices offered by its sub-brand, Black Shark. The company introduced its first gaming phone in 2018 and launched its successor in early 2019 but in July, we came face to face with the biggest and baddest of them all, Black Shark 2 Pro.

In terms of design, we do not see any changes in the device as compared to the standard Black Shark 2 but hardware is at an entirely new level. What makes it one of the best gaming smartphones in 2019 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus, a chipset made to provide optimum gaming experience by offering stronger CPU and GPU performance.

The phone comes with 6.39 inches of FHD+ OLED display, 240Hz touch report rate, and response speed of 34.7ms along with touch precision rate of 0.3mm. Unfortunately, its refresh rate is still 60Hz which is even less than OnePlus 7 Pro (90 Hz).

Interestingly, Black Shark 2 Pro also has touch zones around the hardware to simulate physical buttons which can be mapped on the display. It features a 12GB RAM, 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage and 4000mAh battery.

Razer Phone 2

Razer Phone 2

Razer Phone 2 was launched in 2018 but that is not stopping it from becoming one of the best gaming smartphones of 2019. The device comes with 5.7 inches of display with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz which enhances the gaming performance for the user.

The smartphone is powered by an older Snapdragon 845 processor which coupled with 8GB RAM can provide enough speed for the heaviest games in the market. The company also offers an improved cooling system inside the chassis which helps to keep the smartphone cool even during an intense gaming session.

On the downside, you get huge bezels at the front of the phone but the picture quality and the performance of the smartphone can make up for it. Also, the company offers a quite neat, simple and customizable OS where users can prioritize gaming and movie watching from the phone’s settings.

The phone also packs a 400mAh battery and lesser 64GB of internal storage under the hood.

Red Magic 3

Red Magic 3

Red Magic 3 is not just another phone in our list of best gaming smartphones in 2019 but also is one of the affordable devices for budget-conscious gamers (under $500 at the time of launch). The phone offers many high-end features like the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6.65 inches of FHD+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate, and programmable touch-sensitive trigger buttons.

It also comes with air vents for the fan to prevent overheating but on the downside, it is not water-resistant. It also comes with a dedicated gaming mode which upon activation turn on the colling fans and boosts the CPU and GPU to enhance the phone’s gaming performance.

Red Magic 3 packs a 5000mAh battery, an 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. There’s also a special camo model which features a 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The phone also offers 4D Shock mode which adds vibration feedback with certain supported games like PUBG Mobile.

Red Magic Mars

Red Magic Mars

Red Magic Mars though do not have the latest specs offered by phones launching in 2019 but it surely provides a great mobile gaming experience at a very affordable price.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Nubia launched the smartphone in 2018 and offers Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset along with 10GB RAM to the users looking for the best gaming smartphones in a budget.

The device also comes with a vapor cooling system to keep the phone from overheating, a motor-based rumble system and RGB light strip that reacts to in-game action. The user can also choose to reprogram the trigger buttons to give themselves an edge while playing on a smaller 6 inches of screen which features 2160 x 1080 pixels of screen resolution.

Moreover, Red Magic Mars also offers a 6GB RAM variant with 64GB storage and 8GB RAM model with 128GB storage. The 10GB RAM variant has 256GB of internal storage.

Black Shark 2

Black Shark 2

Xiaomi’s Black Shark 2 helped the company to truly break out in the gaming smartphone market and showcase its technological prowess when it comes to smartphone manufacturing.

Don’t be fooled by the $500 price tag (at the time of launch) and simple design of the phone as in terms of specs, it is a mighty device which features 6.39 inches of AMOLED display, 240Hz of touch sensing and 1080 x 2340 pixels of screen resolution.

Sadly, the image refresh rate is 60Hz, but the Snapdragon 855 chipset coupled with either 6GB or 8GB RAM can help to hide this detail by providing powerful performance. Similar to Razer Phone 2 above, Black Shark 2 features dual forward-firing speakers to provide immersive stereo sounds. The company has kept the same multi-layer liquid cooling tech as the one featured in the original Black Shark and provides a pressure-sensitive display through “Force Touch sensor.”
