HMD Global has taken the wraps off their new series of budget devices, the all-new Nokia 2 2018, Nokia 3 2018, and Nokia 5 2018. The latest phones are an upgrade to their predecessors launched in 2017. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, announced the three phones in an event held in Russia and labeled them as Nokia 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1.
All the three newly released phones are operating on Android Oreo with two being the Android One devices and the third device runs on Oreo Go Edition. The company promised that the Android One phones will keep receiving software updates for two years and security patch updates for three years.
Nokia 2 2018
Nokia 2.1 is the entry level upgrade to its predecessor, Nokia 2 and runs on Android Oreo Go Edition. It sports a 5.5-inch display and has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with 16:9 aspect ratio.
The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 425 and the company claims it to be 50% faster than its prequel. The processor is accompanied by 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a micro SD card. The device packs an 8 MP rear and 5 MP front camera.
The phone’s selling pitch is its huge 4000 mAh battery and let’s not forget that Nokia 2.1 also has dual front-facing stereo speakers. The phone is priced at $115 and will be available from July 2018 onwards.
Nokia 3 2018
Nokia 3.1 is an Android One device and has a premium look to it with a diamond cut frame. At the launch event, the company specifically emphasized the compact yet the premium design of Nokia 3.1 which boasts a 5.2-inch screen with 720 x 1440 resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9.
As per the company, Nokia 3.1 aims to up the game in design and performance and is equipped with MediaTek 6750 octa-core chipset and has two variants in terms of RAM and storage. 2GB/16 GB version will be available for $159 and 3GB/32GB version will be sold for $184. The phone will come in Blue Copper, Black Chrome, and White Iron colors and will go on sale in June 2018.
Nokia 5 2018
Nokia 5 2018 proves to be a massive upgrade over its predecessor in terms of design as well as specs. The phone is manufactured with anodized aluminum and gives a pretty premium look similar to the Nokia 8. The phone features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD with 1080 x 2160 and 18:9 aspect ratio while the display is also protected by 2.5D Corning Gorillas Glass.
Nokia 5 2018 being an Android One device packs a MediaTek Helio P18 octa-core chipset with 2GB/3GB and 16GB/32GB of onboard storage. On the back, the phone hosts a fingerprint sensor and a 16 MP Phase Detection AF camera while the front camera of the phone is an 8MP snapper.
It is powered up by a 2970 mAh battery and comes in three colors, Copper, Tempered Blue and Black. The 2GB/16GB variant of the phone will sell for $218 and 3GB/32GB will be priced at $252.
